What equipment/accessories should I bring with me?

It is recommended when planning a Trout fly fishing trip to New Zealand that you bring the following Trout fly fishing equipment and accessories:

Rod: 5wt or 6wt, 9ft - if early season Trout fly fishing,  an 8wt rod can be useful for casting large weighted nymphs if windy (I carry one in the car at all times)

Reels: reels which have a good smooth drag and 100 yards of backing are best

Flyline: Line 5wt or 6wt, coloured olive green, grey, brown etc - no bright colours

Leaders: 9ft 2x or 3x

Tippet: 4x, 5x, flurocarbon 4x

Wading Boots: rubber soled, well supported

Waders: light weight goretex

In New Zealand, wet wading in light trousers or polyprops and shorts are recommended for the warmer months. You will need neoprene booties with built-in gravel guards

Raincoat: breathable with hood

In New Zealand  Polaroid sun glasses are a must , hat or cap, sunscreen and insect repellent, camera, small day pack if you wish to carry other personal items.

I do have a limited supply of fly fishing waders and wading boots of various sizes, also Trout rods, reels and lines, so please ask should you not have your own Trout fly fishing equipment.
